Let’s get exotic… Apollo Flooring knows all about exotic woods, especially in the form of engineered hardwood. Exotic wood means that extremely high end, novel looks can be achieved at costs often approaching those of standard oak. Unlike solid wood, the structure of engineered wood flooring performs better because its layers provide more dimensional stability and therefore a greater number places wood can be used in the home, places solid wood just can’t go.
“Character” is driving the trends in wood beginning with wider dimension boards. That’s partially true because they look better in our larger homes. The same can be said for the character of aged or distressed looking floors and in the unexpected appearance of Brazilian cherry, African wenge, merbau, teak and others as well as re-harvestable bamboo (actually harder than oak) and cork.
